(D = doctor; P = patient)
P: Doctor, I think I have anorexia.
D: Why do you think that?
P: I’ve looked up on the Internet, and it says that anorexia is something that makes you throw up after you eat every time.
D: Do you try to throw up deliberately?
P: Yes. I’m actually training to become a model, but have great difficulty controlling my appetite. We models always have to fear gaining weight. I haven’t told anyone so far, but that’s why I try to throw up.
D: How much do you weigh?
P: I weigh about 99 pounds (45 kilograms). This drives me crazy. I still think I’m too fat. I hear that doctors today prescribe weight loss pills as well. Do you do that?
D: It must be very difficult for you. How are your eating patterns?
P: I’m trying to lose weight, so I stick to a vegetable-only diet. But I can’t help yearning for other types of food from time to time. Afterward, though, I always head to the bathroom and force myself to vomit. All this is just getting unsustainable for me.
D: I see. Refusing to eat food, however, can lead to a serious harm on your body.
