P: I’m here today because my vision has gotten blurry and worse suddenly. I keep getting headaches and bloodshot eyes. What is wrong with me, doctor?
환자: 예, 선생님. 제가 갑자기 눈이 잘 안보이게 되고, 머리도 아프고 눈이 충혈됩니다. 무슨 문제가 있나 싶어서 왔어요.
D: So your vision is getting worse, and you have headaches and bloodshot eyes? When did these symptoms begin to appear?
의사: 아, 시력이 감퇴되고, 두통, 안구 충혈의 증상이 있으시군요. 언제부터 그러셨어요?
P: It’s been less than a week.
환자: 1주일 채 안 된 것 같아요.
D: Can I get a closer look at your eyes?
의사: 제가 눈을 좀 진찰해 보겠습니다.
(The doctor conducts a series of tests.)
(의사는 일련의 검사를 시행한다.)
D: Now, the examination is over.
의사: 검사 다 끝났습니다.
P: So, what is it, doctor?
환자: 제 상태가 어떤가요?
D: I can see that your intraocular pressure has gone up quite a bit, and your vision is deteriorating rapidly. Fortunately, your visual nerves seem to be intact. It seems that you have a case of acute glaucoma. Acute glaucoma results from sudden damage to the visual nerves or blocks in the bloodstreams to visual nerves caused by abrupt spikes in the intraocular pressure.
의사: 예. 환자분 상태는 지금 안압이 많이 상승해 있고요, 시력도 떨어져 있습니다. 다행히 검사상 시신경이 손상되어 있지는 않네요. 급성 녹내장이라고 생각됩니다. 급성 녹내장은 안압 상승으로 인해 시신경이 손상되거나 시신경으로의 혈류 장애로 인해 시신경의 손상을 초래하는 질환입니다.
P: So, how would you treat this acute glaucoma?
의사: 네, 그럼 급성 녹내장은 어떻게 치료하나요?
D: For now, the most important thing is to lower your intraocular pressure so as to protect your visual nerves against possible damage. I will prescribe you some eyedrops and medications to help with that.
환자: 가장 중요한 치료는 안압을 떨어뜨려 시신경을 보존하는 것입니다. 우선 안압을 떨어뜨리기 위해 안압을 낮추는 안약을 점안하고, 안압 하강제를 복용해야겠습니다.
