한국군, 귀순 병사 뒤쫓는 북한군들에게 사격

A group of North Korean soldiers retreated after South Korean guards fired at them in the central-western part of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), the four-kilometer-wide inter-Korean border, Thursday morning.

북한군 병력이 목요일 아침, 중서부 전선 비무장지대 폭 4㎞의 군사분계선에서 우리군 병력이 경고사격을 하자 퇴각했다.

The North Korean soldiers were likely searching for a soldier who defected to the South at 8:04 a.m. The South Korean guards fired 20 rounds from their K-3 machine guns at the soldiers.

북한군 수색조는 오전 8시 04분 남쪽으로 귀순한 병사를 추격한 것으로 알려졌다. 우리 군은 북한군들을 향해 K-3기관총으로 20발 경고사격을 했다.

It is not clear whether the North Koreans fired back but no casualties were reported.

북한군 대응 사격 여부는 알려지지 않았으나 사상자 보도는 없었다.

The ROK Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said a northern soldier defected and was in custody.

합동참모본부는 한 북한군 병사가 귀순해 보호 중에 있다고 밝혔다.

The incident came a month after a North Korean soldier's dramatic defection at the truce village of Panmunjeom.

이번 사건은 판문점 공동경비구역에서 한 북한군 병사의 극적으로 귀순한지 한 달 만에 발생한 것이다.

North Korean guards shot the soldier several times as he escaped. He has since recovered.

북한군은 이 병사가 도주할 때 그를 향해 여러 번 총격을 가했다. 하지만 그는 이후 회복되었다.

Meanwhile, the Unification Ministry said two North Koreans defected by fishing boat to the South on Wednesday.

한편, 통일부는 2명의 북한인이 수요일 어선을 타고 남쪽으로 귀순했다고 전했다.

A P-3C naval patrol aircraft found the boat 100 kilometers northeast of the Dokdo islets at 11:30 a.m. The coast guard rescued them at 3:04 p.m.

해군 P-3C 초계기는 오전 11시 30분 독도 북방 100㎞에서 이 배를 발견했다. 해양 경찰은 오후 3시 4분 그들을 구조했다.

Fifteen North Koreans have defected to South Korea this year. Four were soldiers.

15명의 북한군이 올해 남한으로 귀순했다. 이 가운데 4명은 군인이었다.
