테슬라, 미국 자동차 업계 사상 최고 몸값 등극

 

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – For the first time, Tesla's stock market value has eclipsed the combined values of General Motors and Ford Motor.

테슬라의 시가총액이 처음으로 제너럴모터스와 포드 자동차를 합친 금액을 넘어섰다. 

The Silicon Valley electric car maker's stock jumped nearly 5 percent on Wednesday, closing at a record $492.14 per share and elevating its market capitalization to almost $89 billion, or $2 billion larger than the sum of General Motors' and Ford's respective market caps of $50 billion and $37 billion.

실리콘밸리에 본사를 둔 전기자동차 회사 테슬라의 주가는 수요일 거의 5% 급등한 주당 492.14달러에 마감하며, 시가총액이 제너럴모터스(시총 500억 달러)와 포드(시총 370억 달러)의 시가총액 합계보다 20억 달러 높은 890억 달러를 기록했다. 

Fueled by a surprise third-quarter profit, progress at a new factory in China and better-than-expected car deliveries in the fourth quarter, Tesla's stock has more than doubled in the past three months.

3분기 어닝서프라이즈와 중국의 새 공장 건설, 예상치를 넘어선 4분기 판매실적에 힘입어 테슬라의 주가는 지난 3개월 동안 두 배 이상 올랐다. 

"It's clear that Tesla is back to being a story stock and there's a lot of good news out there," said David Kudla, chief investment strategist at MainStay Capital Management. "But there are still some problematic issues out there, chief among them is what will its sustained profitability look like, and when will it start to be valued like a car company and not a tech company."

데이비드 쿠들라 메인스테이캐피탈매니지먼트의 수석 투자 전략가는 "테슬라가 화제주로 복귀한 것은 분명하고, 앞으로도 좋은 소식이 많을 것"이라고 가 말하며 "그러나 여전히 문제가 되는 부분들이 있는데, 그중 가장 중요한 것은 지속적인 수익성이 어떻게 될 것인가, 그리고 언제 테슬라가 기술 회사가 아닌 자동차 회사처럼 평가되기 시작할 것인가 하는 점"이라고 덧붙였다. 

The progress made by Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk has defied short sellers and other traders expecting the automaker to be overtaken by long-established car companies, including GM and Ford.

일론 머스크 테슬라 최고경영자(CEO)가 만들어낸 성장은 테슬라가 GM, 포드와 같은 오랜 역사를 지닌 전통 자동차 회사들에 의해 추월당할 것으로 기대했던 투자자들의 예상을 틀리게 만들었다. 

Underscoring investors' confidence in Musk and his company's future growth, its market capitalization has outpaced its U.S. rivals, even as their businesses dwarf Tesla's.

일론 머스크와 회사의 미래 성장성에 대한 투자자들의 신뢰로 테슬라의 시가총액은 사업 약화에도 불구하고 미국의 경쟁 상대들을 앞질렀다. 

GM and Ford each delivered more than 2 million vehicles in the United States last year, compared with Tesla's worldwide deliveries of 367,500 vehicles.전 세계에서 36만 7,500대를 판매한 테슬라에 비해, GM과 포드는 지난해 미국에서만 각각 2백만 대 이상의 차량을 판매했다. 

While Tesla's recent progress has cheered supporters, many analysts and investors remain pessimistic about the company's ability to consistently deliver profit and cash flow.

테슬라의 최근 성장은 회사 지지자들을 고무시켰지만, 많은 분석가들과 투자자들은 이 회사의 수익과 현금 흐름을 일관되게 지속할 수 있는 능력에 대해 비관적이다.
