(HE = hospital employee 직원; P = patient 환자)

HE: Sir, I’ve just received a guarantee of payment (GOP) from your insurance company, and it states only cardiac surgery. But you need to receive tests for orthopedic surgery as well. So you’ll have to pay for those latter tests on your own.

직원: 환자분 보험회사에서 지급 보증이 흉부외과 앞으로 나와 있거든요. 그런데 지금 정형외과 진료와 정형외과 관련 검사가 있어요. 이런 경우 정형외과 관련 진료 및 검사 비용은 환자분께서 부담하셔야 합니다.

P: Why don’t I call the insurance company and have those tests included in the GOP as well?

환자: 그럼 지금 보험 회사에 연락해서 지급 보증을 요청하면 안되나요?

HE: You can certainly do that. Or, you can pay by a credit card for now, and file for reimbursements later after your new GOP arrives.

직원: 그러셔도 됩니다. 아니면 지금 신용카드로 결제하시고 나중에 지급 보증이 나왔을 때 환급을 받으셔도 됩니다.

P: I’d rather wait first and receive the tests after I get the new GOP.

환자: 저는 기다렸다가 지급 보증이 나오면 처리하도록 할게요.

HE: As you wish. Would you like to go ahead with the cardiac surgery tests first then?

직원: 편하신 대로요, 그러면 흉부외과 진료 및 검사 먼저 받으시겠어요?

P: No, I’ll wait until everything is sorted out.

환자: 아니요, 한꺼번에 하고 싶어요.

(A moment later)

(잠시 후)

HE: Your new GOP is in, sir. It includes your orthopedic surgery tests, too.

직원: 정형외과 지급 보증도 나왔습니다.

P: So the insurance company is paying for all the tests, right?

환자: 그럼 흉부외과 정형외과 모두 보험사에서 결제해 주는 거죠?

HE: That’s right.

직원: 네, 맞습니다.

P: Do I have other records or documents I need to submit to the insurance company?

환자: 보험회사에 제출하기 위해 필요한 서류는 없나요?

HE: Ask your doctors to prepare them for you when you consult them.

직원: 이따가 다시 진료 보실 때 의사 선생님께 서류 작성 요청해 주세요.

P: All right.

환자: 알겠습니다.
