[금주의 코리아타임스 하이라이트] 북한이 모르는 사실(What North Korea fails to know)

North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un is pictured with a big smile on his face in official photos released following its nuclear and missile tests — the last two being after the Sept. 4 sixth nuclear test that some say amounted to a hydrogen bomb in yield and the Aug. 28 test of a missile that flew over Japan.

북한은 미사일 발사와 핵실험 후 관영방송을 통해 김정은 노동당 위원장이 호탕하게 웃는 모습을 담은 사진을 공개했는데, 8월 28일에 북한 미사일이 일본 열도 상공을 비행했을 때와 일부 전문가들이 수소폭탄의 위력을 보여줬다고 하는 9월 4일의 핵실험 후에도 예외가 아니었다.

If Pyongyang wants to convey a sense of confidence with that beaming face of its leader, it should think again.

만약 북한이 이런 사진으로 자신감을 과시하려 한다면 이는 중대한 착오다.

Already, the United States is exerting maximum pressure on the North, forcing its benefactors, China and Russia, to cut off oil supplies to it. So far, the two have resisted but it remains to be seen how long they can keep oil flowing into the North as the international community is tightening the screws to isolate the North further.

이미 미국이 북한에 최대한의 압력을 넣고 있는 가운데 친북 노선을 걷고 있는 중국과 러시아가 북한에 원유 공급을 중단하라는 미국의 압박을 거부하고 있지만 머지 않아 입장을 철회하고 국제 사회와 힘을 합쳐 북한 고립화 노력에 참여하는 가능성을 배제할 수 없다.

The secondary boycott has been in the offing for some time to punish all entities, especially Chinese businesses, for dealing with the North.

또한 미국은 북한과 거래를 하는 정부, 기업, 금융기관을 제재하는 노력을 준비 중이며 대상은 대부분 중국 기업이 될 것이다.

Mexico has expelled the North Korean ambassador, while the Philippines cut business deals with the North.

멕시코 또한 북한 대사를 추방했고 필리핀은 북한과의 무역 거래를 중지했다.
